"Having long known that most of Mom's family were murdered as a result of an evil German leader, and later coming to suspect that the leaders of many nations, including my own, sat passively by and tolerated the genocide, I never trusted that authority figures would protect me or do what was best. If adults were so wise or capable, why hadn't they spoken up all over the world?
