Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard - Much Better Than 50 Shades

Gabriel's Inferno

Yes, I read Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy and I did love it. It was not so much the steamy parts that I loved but the whole story line. It was intense with moments of giggles, heavy sigh, irritation, anger, well just about all the major emotions. After reading 50, like a lot of women, decided I wanted to read more of the same type of story and after reading many suggestions, it was Gabriel's Inferno next.

WELL, this book was so much more better!! Yes same type of story, rich, hot guy meets young virginal girl, becomes over the top obsessive/jealous, girl leaves guy a few times, guy stalks after her, ends up getting married.
BUT, the story was so much more. The hot rich guy Gabriel Emerson is a Dante professor and Anastasia is his student and throughout the book, there is many reference to Dante and Beatrice. So many beautiful, lyrical poetic reference to Dante and his love for Beatrice which Gabriel refers to Anastasia as his Beatrice and the romance and passion is utterly swoonful!

“I will remember your scent and your touch and how it felt to love you. But most of all, I will remember how it felt to gaze at true beauty, both inside and out. For you are fair, my beloved, in soul and in body, generous of spirit and generous of heart. And I will never see anything this side of heaven more beautiful than you.”

Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:

Enigmatic and sexy, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure. He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption.

When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide.

An intriguing and sinful exploration of seduction, forbidden love and redemption, “Gabriel's Inferno” is a captivating and wildly passionate tale of one man's escape from his own personal hell as he tries to earn the impossible...forgiveness and love.

NB: This book was a semi-finalist for Best Romance in the 2011 Goodreads Choice Awards
Please note that there are many "steamy" moments but if love a good romance I highly recommend this book.  There is also a a sequal
Gabriel's Rapture (Gabriel's Inferno Series)
Which is even more romantic, steamy and swoonful!
