Sunday Salon .... Summers Finally Here!

Yep, its a little late. There hasn't been much of a summer here, mostly in the low 70's, cold, windy but it was in the high 70's yesterday and the rest of the week its supposed to stay that way .  We went to the beach and baked in the sun.  Reading and building sandcastles.
Last week I finished:  Dreams of Joy by Lisa See

Wrecker by Summer Wood

Currently Reading : The Crying Tree by  Naseem Rakha

The Sunday Salon

I finally have  a day to read, blog and just plain be lazy! Since I've gone back to the office, I haven't had the energy to blog or do anything on the computer. But we've been bike riding, trying to lose weight and I'm finally  getting used to the schedule. My son has also been making friends and is adjusting to our new home. The weather has been wonderful too! Not hot not cold but the fall chill is in the air.

Since we've moved I have read so many great books. The last one I finished, The Help by Kathryn Stockett  was an awesome read. Sad but the ending was so good. I am looking forward to seeing the movie!

THE HELP By Stockett, Kathryn (Author) Paperback on 05-Apr-2011
THE HELP: Movie Trailer. Watch more top selected videos about: THE HELP, Sissy Spacek

I've finished :

Sunday Salon

The weather is finally starting to act like spring! Its so nice to hear the birds chirping and fluttering about. I can't wait for summer!
I haven't had much time to read or blog. I miss blogging and visiting other blogs. I don't know how people with kids and a job  have time to read so much and blog. I guess if you don't watch TV that probably helps! I have been hooked on a show called Brothers & Sisters and on season 3 now. I heard it got cancelled but I guess after 7 seasons or whatever its probably about time.

Exciting events:

May 24 - 26th in New York City - {{ sigh}} wish I could go!

THRILLERFEST VI on July 6-9 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. I'll be posting more about this next week.

Currently reading:

The 19th Wife by  Jeff Ebershoff

Still have quite a few reviews to work on, which is the hardest part for me. I really struggle writing reviews.  I'm working on  Deed So  by Katharine Russell.   My goal next week is to finish 3 reviews. Ha! Ya right....

Hope you have a wonderful week!

Sunday Salon

Where did the weekend go?? I am not ready for the weekend to end.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed IIWe have a Wii and for Christmas we got my son the Star Wars game and the light sabers to go with it.   I am so irritated because I thought I read somewhere that the sabers work well and it enhances the game play but the communication with the game is poor, to much plastic or something in front of the remote and I can't return them because, well my son got to carried away opening the box and tore it up.
But the game was fun and my son loved it. He got the through the whole game in 2 days!
With his Christmas money he bought another Wii game that is supposed to be fun, we'll see. Its called Active Life Explorer and it comes with a mat for the running, jumping, crawling, etc. I wish they had something like "Try before you buy" games.

I am still on target with my reading goal this month. I am reading A Cup of Friendship but I have to say, its a little boring in some parts. So far it's about a woman who owns a coffee shop in Kabul, Afghanistan, a misogynist country, run by the Taliban and she is determined to make it a safe place amidst the suicide bombings and a safe haven for women. But I'm disappointed, I had high hopes for it.

So I decided to start  on Wor ds and wow! First 2 pages had me hooked. Ok, so this is the first couple of paragraphs:

I collect words.
I keep them in a box in my mind. I'd like to keep them in a real box, something pretty, maybe a shoe box covered with flowered wrapping paper. I'd write my words on scraps of paper and then put them in the box.  Whenever I wanted, I'd open the box and pick up the papers, reading and feeling the words all at once. Then I could hide the box.
But the words are safer in my mind. There, he can't take them.

Sooo sad but it keeps you reading, wanting to know what her story is and who HE is.  I keep picking it up and reading a page here and there when I get a second to sit.  I'll probably finish it today.

WordsA Cup of Friendship: A Novel

Well that's a wrap. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

Sunday Salon.........

This last week had been very hectic. I did finally finish Blood Harvest .
Pray for Silence: A Thriller (Kate Burkholder)Wow, the ending was a surprise and a bit graphic and disturbing!  THEN I started reading Pray For Silence by Linda Castillo and woa, it starts out with details about a horrific murder and I'm thinking, "why am I reading this now?!!" I think I might switch to How To Be An American Housewife and come back to Pray for Silence. I don't know if I can read another gory murder mystery right now!
Blood Harvest

So on Saturday, we went on an errand and when I got home, I couldn't find one of my kitties. We searched and called everywhere and he didn't come home which is very unusual. Later on, my husband was outside and he called me. He said he knew where the cat was and I looked up and there he is, 50-60ft up in a tree!

I was just sick because there was no way to get him down. So we had to leave him there  but in the morning, he was in his bed, a little scared but no injuries. I was sooo relieved.

Lost: The Complete Sixth and Final SeasonWe are watching the last season of Lost and I am more LOST than ever! It just gets more confusing as the show goes on. I thought that the man in black was Satan and Jacob was God but then there is Whitmore, who is he? And what does the Dharma initiative have to do with any of it? And what is with Hurley talking to the dead?

"You wanna know a secret, Jack?? Something I've known a long, long time?? You're dead. I mean literally, we're all dead. Every single one of us. And this, this, all this, it's not what you think it is. We're not on an island, we never where. We're in hell." Richard to Jack...
Oh my goodness!

Anyway, it is a dreary, rainy day. I have some bookwork to do and then I'm going to snuggle on the couch and read and I might watch a movie or 2!
